The Winery Block spans four acres at the crest of the knoll just below the tasting room, a vineyard you can almost step into, glass in hand. The 2023 vintage captures the season’s balance and intensity, with lifted aromatics and refined tannins shaped by the cool morning fog and the signature elegance of our Gold Ridge soils. It stands as one of the clearest expressions of why 2023 will be remembered as a benchmark year at Iron Horse.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
A deep, velvety hue invites you in, revealing aromas of forest floor, gently framed by a whisper of oak. On the palate, notes of ripe red plum, cassis, and raspberry unfold with vibrant balance, leading to a long, silky finish that lingers with elegance and grace.
Vineyard Notes
This four-acre vineyard block is at the crest of the knoll that rises to the winery, planted to single clone, Pommard 5. It lies right in the middle of your view, spilling out at your feet, when you are standing at the Tasting Room, looking east.
Winemaker Notes
Hand picked and of a single clone, (Pommard 5) the grapes are de-stemmed into stainless steel tanks where they are cold-soaked (using dry ice) for four to seven days. Before fermentation is complete, the new wine is gently pressed from the skins and transferred to French oak barrels. Fermentation then goes to completion in the barrels, allowing us to stir the lees as the wine goes through malolactic fermentation.
